Pocono Lakes and a Changing Climate

This is a recording of a virtual seminar hosted by Lacawac Sanctuary Biological Field Station as part of its Pocono Lake Ecological Observatory Network (PLEON) 2020 Summer Workshop Series. The seminar is given by Dr. Craig Williamson, a professor at Miami University of Ohio and a member of the PLEON Science Advisory. In this seminar, Dr. Williamson distills his more than 30 years of research investigating how lakes in the Pocono Mountain region of Northeastern Pennsylvania are responding to climate change. He discusses how changes in precipitation regimens are contributing to “lake browning”, or the phenomenon of lakes becoming darker in color, and how this is affecting how lakes function. He also discusses the interaction between climate change and recovery from acidification that is taking place in this region and how this affects lakes. The seminar is appropriate for a general audience with little to no science background and includes an introduction to many general limnology concepts.
