Field Research Centre: Site 1 Autumn 2022 – Overlook of Recovering Mining Quarry

After intense gravel excavation and coal mining activities, the land was given back to nature. The soils are therefore not the typical sandy soils of the Campines region, but rather alkaline left-over earth from a depth till 800m. This site harbours old and new biodiversity for this area.
