Blackwater Wetland Restoration Site: Site 3 Autumn 2022 – Lake Peninsula

Here we are on a sandbar formed at the mouth of Fox Creek as it enters College Lake, an urban freshwater lake on the campus of the University of Lynchburg. The lake was created in 1934 when Blackwater Creek was impounded with an earthen dam. Starting in early 2023, the dam will be removed, and we will observe significant changes at this site as Blackwater Creek is restored as a meandering channel through the lakebed.
