Here we have a view looking downstream from a bridge over Fox Creek on the campus of the University of Lynchburg, just upstream of the mouth of the creek where it enters College Lake. The lake was created in 1934 when Blackwater Creek was impounded with an earthen dam. Starting in early 2023, the dam will be removed, and we will observe significant changes at this site as Blackwater Creek is restored as a meandering channel through the lakebed. This site used to be underwater when it was part of the original lake, and we anticipate that the existing wetland at this site now resembles what the rest of the lakebed will look like after the dam is removed.
