For habitats in Florida, fire is another natural process like rainfall. Too little or too much is a bad thing, but the right amount fosters the flourishing of our state’s wildlands. Starting with lightning strikes, then Native Americans, cowboys, and scientists, Florida’s fire starters provide an essential ingredient for healthy ecosystems. Participants will learn about the history of fire, how prescribed burning works, and how plants and animals in the Florida scrub habitat thrive when living beside it.
