Comparing species at the East Foundation in Texas and Archbold Biological Station in Florida

Sometimes referred to as “a little bit of the West that got left in the East,” Florida is home to plants and animals whose closest relatives are found in the Southwest. To celebrate this connection, the East Foundation in Texas and Archbold Biological Station in Florida hosted a joint virtual tour. Participants learned about today's living species with ancestors that used the lost prehistoric habitat corridor that once connected the Southwest and Southeast. The event focused on jays, tortoises, and crested caracara. Presenters included educators and researchers. The event was tailored for middle and high school students, but was open to all. Find out who they are, how they got interested in their research, and the questions they are asking.
