The sandy shore of a glacial lake in the Pocono Mountain region of Northeast Pennsylvania and on the southern edge of glacial coverage. We are standing on the south-eastern shore where wave action maintains a sandy substrate. The watershed is entirely forested.

Vegetation Types: The lake community includes aquatic plants (e.g., pickerelweed, water shield, floating heart) and macroinvertebrates (e.g., dragonflies, damselflies, whirligig beetles). The fish community consists of smallmouth bass, largemouth bass, and chain pickerel as the top predators and bluegills, pumpkinseeds, yellow perch, and golden shiners as the main forage species. Watershed vegetation is a mix of temperate hardwood species including oak, maple, birch, and beech as well as eastern hemlock and white pine.
