Pepperwood Fire Cameras

Join Pepperwood’s Research Technician, Ryan Ferrell, to learn about Pepperwood’s Fire Cameras which were the first of 8 cameras in a pilot for the University of Nevada Reno’s Alert Wildfire North Bay project. These were installed following the 2017 Tubbs Fire, and were essential in detecting, monitoring and tracking the progression of the 2019 Kincade Fire.

Each camera collects and uploads data to a central network. This network provides on-demand real-time data that allows for easy online remote monitoring of current conditions from Pepperwood. All this real-time data is available online, making it easier to share and collaborate with first responders and our community! CALFIRE can remotely control these cameras so crews have more information when making decisions; this helps keep our first responders and our community safer in the event of a wildfire.
